We Recently Lost Two Wonderful Friends of AICC: Nan Harrison & Brian Buckley

This past week we lost two wonderful friends of AICC:  Nan Harrison, formerly Vice President and owner of Hycorr Machine, and Brian Buckley, former owner and President of Brian Thomas Display & Packaging as well as a past chairman of AICC.
Nan Harrison, 80, passed away on Monday, January 21, in Sarasota, Fla.  Nan, wife of Fred Harrison and co-owner of Hycorr Machine In Kalamazoo, Mich., and was a cheerful, friendly face at every AICC meeting for 35 years or more.  Even after they sold their company to Kolbus they continued to participate in AICC meetings for a few years, such was the strength and depth of their relationships with AICC’s independent members..  Her obituary appears in the following link, but we will remember her for her service to AICC’s Associate members, her participation in our long-range planning meetings in the early 2000s and simply her cheerful, “Nan,” personality.  She and Fred were surprised in recent years to be the first co-recipients, as husband and wife, of AICC/Paperboard Packaging Hall of Fame award.  It was a total surprise for them and a memorable moment in our Hall of Fame history.  We did not receive information about services at this time, nor do I have mailing information for those of you who wish to send a note to Fred and family.  I’ll have it in the coming week, so if you want to send a note simply send me an email and I’ll send it to you.

Brian P. Buckley, 69, passed away on Thursday, January 24.  His obituary appears in the link below.  Brian was a partner and owner in Brian Thomas Display & Packaging, Houston, and an active member of AICC and on its Board of Directors for more than 10 years.  His AICC service is outlined in the obituary, but we can add to that his generous spirit and service on so many AICC Committees, including the Education Development Committee as Chairman; the Containerboard (now Paperboard), Regulations & Sheet Supply Committee; AICC’s Executive Committee and finally, AICC Chairman. Brian was a charter member of the first “CEO Advisory Group,” called “The Ackerman Group,” so named after its founder Mort Ackerman, who in 1999 assembled a group of prominent AICC members — board members all — to participate in a peer group advisory committee.  This became the model for our current “CEO Advisory Groups,” a valued AICC member service.
If you wish to send a note of condolence to his wife, Liz Buckley, you may do so at 12002 Peeble Hill Drive, Houston, Texas  77024.  Services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, in Houston, per the information in the obituary.  Below is the link to Brian’s obituary as it appeared in this morning’s Houston Chronicle.
