TAPPI/AICC Announce Elite Winners of First-Ever Box Manufacturing Olympics

TAPPI and AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, have officially announced the winners of their first-ever Box Manufacturing Olympics (BMO). 

The BMOs, held during SuperCorrExpo® August 8 – 12 in Orlando, Fla., saw an unprecedented 170-combined entries representing TAPPI’s CorrPak® Competition and AICC’s Package Design Competition, culminating in more than 91 awards in 46 categories. This elite contest was open to all TAPPI and AICC members from around the world, as well as their suppliers, who produce corrugated, rigid box and folding cartons. Packaging schools and universities were also invited to participate. 

A team of 13 independent judges representing both integrated and independent box makers critiqued the entries and awarded “Best of Industry” honors, among others, to winners in four categories. The Best of Industry winners were:

·        Corrugated Structure – Vanguard Companies, Remington iLight IPL3500CDN

·        Corrugated Printing – McLean Packaging Corporation, John Macy Cheese Crisp Club Tray

·        Folding Carton – Utah PaperBox, Frozen 2

·        Rigid Box – Utah PaperBox, Hawaiian Host

SuperCorrExpo attendees also had the opportunity to participate by voting for the “Attendees’ Choice” Award, which was presented to Sumter Packaging, Sumter, SCfor its Employee Appreciation Connect 4 product. The Best of Schools (Student Entry) was awarded to the University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia, for its TWEET Earphones Packaging.

Leading the judging efforts, BMO Chair Cordes Porcher noted that this was one of the most exciting and inspirational competitions he and his panel of judges have presided over. “An amazing array of talent was on display,” he said. “It was no easy task to select the ultimate winners, but after careful – and time-intensive – deliberation, the winners can proudly display each honor knowing their work truly stands out on a global stage.”
