Profit Fell 33%. The Stock Rose 13%. That Gap Is the Whole Story.
Most people will read Mondi’s H1 as a disappointing result.
The market read it very differently.
Mondi Group reported H1 2026 underlying EBITDA of €379m — down from €564m a year earlier — as lower selling prices and higher input costs squeezed margins. Yet on results day, the shares jumped roughly 13%.
This isn’t a contradiction. It’s a lesson in what investors now reward in a downcycle.
