Metsä Board Kemi upgrades winder during Q4 maintenance shutdown

Metsä Board is investing in the finishing operations at its Kemi mill by modernising the board machine winder.

The investment will be implemented during the annual maintenance shutdown in October-November 2026.

“This winder modernisation strengthens our finishing operations and supports our ability to deliver consistent, high-quality products to our customers,” says Tomi Seppä, VP Kemi Board Mill. “At the same time, it improves operational stability and ensures dependable deliveries.”

The company has already announced plans for extended downtime at the Kemi site. Metsä Fibre will use the shutdown for upgrades at its Kemi bioproduct mill, while kraftliner production at Metsä Board’s neighbouring Kemi mill will also be suspended.

Metsä Board Kemi has an annual production capacity of approximately 465,000 tonnes and is the world’s largest producer of coated white-top kraftliner.
