‘Leap of faith’: Green Bay Packaging weeks away from turning on Wisconsin’s first new paper mill in decades

Green Bay Packaging is just six weeks away from starting up its new $500 million paperboard mill, but the day the switch is flipped can’t come soon enough for CEO Will Kress. 

It’s not because he’s simply tired after two-and-a-half years of construction on Quincy Street. It’s more critical than that: A spike in demand driven by the coronavirus and online shopping has depleted the company’s inventory of the two paper components it produces and processes into boxes and other packaging material.
